Paint

Interior Paint

If your kitchen walls need some sprucing up or your child  playroom could do with a splash of color, painting is an easy and inexpensive way to give a room or surface a whole new look.

Painting also protects the surface that is painted. Paint protects a surface from moisture, fading and even temperature. The right paint will help you to create the look that you want while providing protection for the surface. Paint should be easy to apply, cover evenly and quickly and last for years.

Here are some things to consider to help you decide on the type of paint. It is important to select the proper paint and at Britton’s Lumber and Landscape we can help you by asking the right questions and then helping you to understand the options and trade-offs between the various paints and surface finishes.

  • What surface will you be painting (walls, trim, doors, ceilings, etc.)?
  • Is the existing surface already painted?
  • Has the surface been stained?
  • Is it prone to bleeding?
  • Does the surface require frequent cleaning?
  • Does the surface have imperfections?

It is not sufficient to simply select the right color of paint (though this is important). At Britton’s Lumber and Landscape we will help to focus on the right questions and help you to understand your paint options.

We will work with you to help you produce the best results possible and help to establish and meet your budget.

Exterior Paint

Here are four key and important characteristics of exterior paint.

Paint hiding power is the ability of the paint to sufficiently cover or conceal the surface where it's applied. Hiding power comes from the paint's pigment and is affected by the manner and thickness of the application.

The color retention of paint refers to tinted paints only. The paint's ability to maintain its original color during exposure determines its color retention.

Paint chalking resistance prevents the white chalky powder from forming on the surface and lightening the color of the paint. Chalking occurs over a period of time by the binder slowly degrading. The telltale streaking of paint (chalk run-down) is one consequence of using a paint that isn't chalk resistant.

The blister resistance will keep excessive moisture from coming through the substrate and affecting the paint layer. If paint is applied over a damp or wet surface, blistering is imminent.
